DNA in Sydney (Tuesday 30/06/2015)

Topic: Leadership, Youth and Empowerment
Speaker: Scientist Dương Nguyệt Ánh
Date:  Tuesday 30 June 2015 from 6 pm to 9 pm
Venue: Vietnamese Cultural Centre, 6-8 Bibbys Place, Bonnyrigg, NSW 2177

This is an open invitation from the Vietnamese Students’ Association (VSA) for all young Australians looking an opportunity to meet arguably one of the most influential Vietnamese women and to meet other like-minded youths. It's a free event with Vietnamese food, sponsored by the Vietnamese Community of Australia, NSW Chapter.

This exclusive evening with Cô Dương Nguyệt Ánh, better known as ‘the Scientist who developed the bomb that ended the war with Afghanistan’, is a unique opportunity for young Vietnamese-Australians to get to know arguably one the most influential Vietnamese women of our era. The Vietnamese Students’ Association, with the support of the Vietnamese Community in Australia, NSW Chapter and Clr Toan Nguyen presents an intimate forum where participants will be inspired by Cô Nguyệt Ánh’s personal story of adversity and triumph, in becoming a world leader in the field of weapons and explosives.

Commonly referred to as the ‘the Bomb Lady’, Cô Nguyệt Ánh is a source of inspiration and pride for Vietnamese people worldwide. She is the epitome of the American dream, having left Vietnam at the fall of Saigon at the age of 15 as one of thousands of Vietnamese boat people, to following her passions and becoming a multiple award recipient for her significant contributions to preserving the national security of the United States.

Ms. Nguyet Anh’s scientific achievements are a strong reflection of her tenacious attitude towards life and in seizing every opportunity to fulfill her greatest potential. After earning her degrees in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Maryland, her devoted service to the Naval Surface Weapons Centre, the US Navy, Air Force, Department of Defence and the US Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, has seen her presented with the Dr. Arthur E. Bisson Prize for Achievement in Naval Technology (1999), the Civilian Meritorious Award (2001), the National Security Medal (2007) as well as various other prestigious awards and commendations. Though perhaps her greatest achievement of all is her role as a mother to four children and an exemplar for all Vietnamese people across the globe.
